Kento Rei Fuan (秀 麗黄 Xiu Li-huang or Shu Rei Fuan) is arguably the strongest member of the Ronin Warriors. He is also known as Kento of Hardrock, or Kongo no Shu.

Kento is voiced by Jason Gray-Stanford in the TV series, Andrew Francis in the OAVs, Tomohiro Nishimura in the original Japanese version, and Sérgio Ruffino is the Brazilian Portuguese Version.

Appearance[]

Kento has dark blue/ash purple hair and blue eyes. During the TV series, he wears a golden headband across his forehead, a yellow t-shirt, light colored pants, and sneakers. During Gaiden, he wears a white t-shirt, tan overalls, white sneakers, and a black hat. In Legend of the Inferno Armor, he starts off wearing a green pair of trunks and a vest type wetsuit top, he's surfing, then changes into a yellow sweater that says "Milkball" and dark pants. When they go to Africa, he wears a white shirt under a blue button-down shirt with three quarter length sleeves, a safari vest, light colored pants, and gray sneakers. In Message, he wears a yellow t-shirt under a white, blue, and red sports jacket, blue jeans, and white shoes. Kento's Hardrock armor is orange with brown and white accents.

Personality[]

Kento is hot tempered and very stubborn, but he's also a loyal friend. Despite his family being rich, he doesn't act like a snob. His favorite sports are judo, kung fu, and rugby. He loves to eat and talks about food often. He also likes arm wrestling with the machine at the arcade game center, mountain climbing, and Tai Chi Gen. He doesn't like Devil's tongue and swallow's nest (special food dishes).

Kento is constantly shown ready to fight against any potential enemy and believes that pure power or brute strength will be enough to win a fight. Because of his eagerness to fight, Kento usually rushes into things without thinking which would work against him many times, at one point he mistakenly attacked Sage because he didn't want to think over a situation Dais caused. After this particular incident, he does calm down a bit but still struggles with properly thinking things through.

Biography[]

Family History[]

Kento's ancestors immigrated from China during the Ching Dynasty. His family is part of a clan of many different families under the leadership of an elder known as Grandfather; though whether he has any relation to Kento is unclear. It is assumed that Kento will take over as clan leader when the current elder retires.

Early History[]

Kento

Young Kento

The Shus (Xius) are very prosperous. Kento's father, Chanrun (Chan-lung), owns a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown that has expanded and become a restaurant chain. His mother, a martial arts master, taught him Chinese kung fu from an early age. Kento has four younger siblings: Rinfi (Lin-fei, she's three years younger than Kento), Yun (Yun-fat, he's five years younger), Meiryu (Mei-ling, he's eight years younger), and Chunfa (Chun-fa, she's eleven years younger). As the oldest, Kento was expected to yield to his younger siblings. This led to him pilfering food whenever he got the chance. He even drank spoiled milk once because he knew that yogurt was made from sour milk.

At one point, Kento had been staying at a shrine owned by Rowen's paternal grandfather as an exchange student and this is where he first met Rowen when the Strata warrior was searching for his armor. The two are stated to have continued being friends since this encounter.

Plot[]

The War with Talpa[]

Kento first appears with the remaining Ronin's when Ryo was fighting the first Dynasty Soldier and tried to help him defeat him. After some struggle on working together, they were able to defeat the soldier and briefly encounter the four dark warlords afterwards.

The group of young heroes attempted to rest for a while as they thought of their next course of action. They are soon attacked by Anubis who was able to defeat Ryo, but Kento joined the others in getting ready to attack the warlord when Talpa used his power to separate the Ronin's and place them where their armors drew their strength.

Kento had been placed within the Throne of the Gods located on a snowy mountain. Because he was immobile, Kale nearly succeeded in ending his life but was saved in time thanks to Sage. With Kento revived, he followed Mia and Sage in trying to reunite with the others but found signs of trouble taking place in Sendai. Upon arriving in Sendai, Kento becomes upset at seeing Ryo and Cye looked like they had been beaten in a fight and vowed to get the one who did it to them. However, his eagerness to fight Dais would prevent him from taking the time to assess the situation and not see he was being tricked until it was too late and he injured Sage. In his anger at being tricked to hurt his friend, Kento attacked Dais with the Iron Rock Crusher and defeated the warlord.

After the group recovered from their wounds, they were divided in how to approach retrieving Rowen when they figured out he was in space. When Ryo attempted sneaking into the city, Kento caught him in the act and joined him but the two were separated when Ryo jumped onto the second Nether Bomb targeting Rowen. Fortunately, the five warriors were reunited.

When the group was making their way toward the Dynasty gates, Kento was temporarily caught by Dais who managed to cause Kento to doubt the armors when telling him about the armors origins. However, this did not last long when Kento saw his friends were in danger and called forth his armor to help them. With his confidence restored, Kento joined the Ronin's in the raid on the Dynasty. Shortly after their arrival, the group was divided. Kento and Rowen were sent to Dais' realm. Knowing one of them needed to find the others, Kento willingly distracted Dais and told Rowen to get away while he could. Eventually, the Ronin's were faced with Talpa himself and quickly found themselves unable to face his power. When Rowen and Cye were beaten, Kento tried to avenge his friends but he too could not stand up to Talpa's power and was absorbed by the emperor. He and the others were freed when Ryo summoned the White armor of Inferno.

Gaiden[]

In the Gaiden arc, Kento is revealed to have won a local lottery and used some of his new wealth to put together a birthday party for Ryo. The following day, he and Cye caught up to Ryo when he had tried to leave to the United States alone after hearing a news report relating to the missing Sage. During the flight, the three suspect that Sage traveled to the states after he received an invitation from one of the universities to confirm if a sword with the Date family crest was authentic. Kento and Ryo point out how Sage was the perfect person for the university to call since he is a master swordsman as well as being a descendant of the Date clan.

Later that evening, Kento takes the group to his Uncle Chin's restaurant in Chinatown. He right away notices that his uncle is trying to flirt with Mia and quickly puts an end to it. Just after this, Runa storms the restaurant and attempts to stab Rowen with the claim that she saw the Strata warrior kill someone. When Ryo stopped Runa, Kento tried to go after her, but Ryo prevented him from doing so since he believed everything was just a misunderstanding.

At a burger establishment with Rowen the next day, Kento expresses his frustration of what happened but quickly put this aside when Rowen points out a problem that needs their attention. Among the other onlookers, they see The Armor of Halo is causing destruction to the area and don their armor to stop it. When face to face with the Halo armor, Kento sees the armor is vacant of its bearer. As the two begin to fight Halo, Kento attempts to use his ultimate move but is prevented from doing so as there are too many people around. After some time trying to subdue Halo, Kento and Rowen find themselves under fire from American forces.

With the Halo armor not holding back, it unleashes its strongest attack, and the two Ronin's are injured in the process. Ryo and Cye quickly arrive on scene and take over fighting the Halo armor. However, with both Kento and Rowen injured from Halo's attack and the continuing assault from law enforcement, the Ronin's quickly escape and split up to find places to recover. It's not long after that the teens re-group but Kento is not very pleased to see Runa with Ryo and Rowen.

The group later travels to Los Angeles where they manage to figure out where Sage is being held prisoner. While the sorcerer Shikaisen manages to trap them, Runa's brash attempt to take revenge for her brother's death gave the Ronin's enough time to escape and stop Shikaisen.

Kento is last seen with his friends on a bridge in New York as they toss flowers into the river in respect to Runa.

Kento attacks!

The story of an armor was passed down from Kento's ancestors. When he had reached the age of thirteen, Grandfather decided to test Kento to see if he was worthy of possessing it. During summer vacation, Kento, Rinfi, and Yun were given permission to visit the family resort where all the family treasures were kept safe. Several of the treasures were broken while they were looking around, but whether it was the fault of Kento's siblings or by the old lady who joined them on their journey is unknown. Either way, Kento intentionally broke a few of the treasures himself in order to take the fall. This allowed Kento to pass the test and the Armor of Hardrock appeared before him.

The Hardrock Armor, or Kongo, is powered by the earth. The weapon is usually in the form of a tetsubo (iron bo), with a naginata blade on one end. Other times, it takes the form of three joined nunchaku. The special attack of the armor is Gan Tessai (Iron Rock Crusher in the English dub), where Kento spins the bo over his head then aims one end towards the ground and causes a massive earthquake.

Relationships[]

  • Ryo of the Wildfire: Very loyal to his friend, Kento will often times do anything he can to help Ryo and will join his side in battle without hesitation. Like the others, he can be protective of their team leader.
  • Cye of the Torrent: Kento is shown to be close friends with Cye and the two are roommates at Mia's house. They get along well and can often be seen in each other's company both in and out of battle and Kento has been said to join Cye at his home.
  • Sage of the Halo: Opposite of Sage in many ways, Kento is sometimes on the receiving end of Sage's taunts of being immature and reckless, but Kento will quickly defend himself by pointing out how Sage sometimes takes things too seriously. Despite this, they rely on each other during fights.
  • Rowen of the Strata: Although they are not often shown interacting, the two are good friends and get along well. This could possibly be as they are said to have known each other for quite some time before meeting the other Ronin's.
  • Mia: Like the others, Kento at times relies on Mia's knowledge of the armors and the netherworld to help them through certain situations. He's also very protective of her and does his best to keep her out of harm's way.
  • Yuli: Kento gets along well with the young boy thanks to his playful nature. Like the other Ronin's, Kento often looks out for Yuli and becomes incredibly angered if Yuli ever gets injured or is in danger.
  • Dais: Kento's main rival of the Warlords. He often falls for Dais' illusions and taunts but will not hold back once things become clear.

Trivia[]

  • Out of all the Ronin Warriors, Kento's family situation is the most typical.
  • When Cye journeyed home to visit his mother between the two battles with Talpa, the reason Kento decided to join him was because he knew the area where Cye lived was famous for hagiyaki. Kento thought hagiyaki was food, but it's actually a type of pottery.
  • Kento stated during the war against Talpa that he didn't know how to swim. He appears to have learned sometime after the war as he is seen treading water in the Gaiden arc and later is surfing with Cye at the beginning of the Inferno arc.
